Reminders for this weekend

We are meeting on Saturday at 11 to start baking pies. We are donating 10-12 pies to Canton Calvary Mission for their Thanksgiving meal. Still working on what to do with the rest.

We're meeting on Sunday at 12:15 PM after late service to see if that time works better for everyone. Assignment = Chapter 1 of It's Not About Me.

Tentative date for Canton Calvary Mission meal = January 3rd

What are we doing for December?

11/9 Summary

We are finished with our first book. Don't forget to buy the next one!

See you on Saturday for game night at 6 PM at the church!

Also, let's start meeting after late service around 12:15 and see if that time is better for everyone.

Saturday, November 8, 2008

11/2 Summary

We are winding down our first book, Just Courage. We're excited to have Game Night on Saturday the 15th, and then bake the donation pies on the 22nd.

Jacob mentioned going ice skating in December???

Pumpkin Pie Sale Results!

We sold a total of 38 pumpkin pies (it would have been 40 if we hadn't needed to "test" one and if Mason hadn't dropped another!).

We collected approximately $330. Our costs were about $155, so we have about $175 left to make more pies for our church's shut ins and local soup kitchens at Thanksgiving.

Thanks to everyone for the time and hard work that was put into making all of the pies! And especially thanks to the folks from the congregation who ordered them!

Ideas for service projects

The Massillon Gateway has a list of a lot of great groups we could volunteer for... or donate pies/other food to. I especially like the United Way Volunteer Serviecs because they match groups with volunteer opportunities. Take a moment to check out this website, and I think we should all think and pray about what group could use the YC's help!

10/19 Summary

Thirty-three pumpkin pie orders and counting! See you at church to start baking at 11:00 AM! Some folks need to leave early and some will come late, but no matter what time you can make it at least some of us will probably be there!

Items to continue thinking about:
  • What kind of community ministery do we want to look into starting?
  • What "social" event can we host on November 15th? LaserQuest? Bowling? Pool? Game night? Band/concert?

Next date to bake charity/shut-in pies: tentatively Novemer 22nd

10/12 Summary

We're up to 22 pie orders and we still have this weekend! Yay! Erin and Tiff will be at church in the hallway to collect money for the early services this weekend starting around 9 this Sunday if anyone else would like to join!

Jacob - Don't forget to get your mom's crust recipe!

Homework for 10/19:
  • Read chapters 4 & 5.
  • Remember to pray when you need to choose a path.
  • What ideas do we have for a community ministery?
  • Check your calendars for our next social event on November 15?
  • What should we do on November 15th and how should we invite others?

10/05 Summary

Pumpkin pie baking and taste testing seemed like a success! We had a lot of pieces left over, but we also made A LOT of pies and handed out a lot of samples. We got 9 orders (18 to make - 9 bought/9 to donate) just out of the last service and on our very first Sunday with the order form in the bulletin. Hopefully more orders will come in during the next 2 weeks!

9/28 Summary

We had a great time bowling Saturday night and then playing Whoonu at Friendly's! Check out pix from bowling in the slideshow -->

We had our first discussion of our first book today, Just Courage, and we all committed to looking for our triggers that help to remind us to pray more often. Next week's assignment = Chapter 2.

9/21 Summary

Don't forget:

  • Get the "Just Courage" book by Gary A. Haugen and read Chapter 1 before Sunday.
  • No meeting at 9:30 on Sunday; we are going to Panera after church!
  • Visit FH.org and decide if you want the group to sponsor a child in Uganda. It would be $3 per month. If not, there are lots of other opportunities on umc.org. For example, if we all gave $1/week, we could essentiall donate one mosquito net every week ($10) to help prevent malaria in Africa with the Nothin But Nets campaign.
  • Price shop for pumpkin pie stuff.
  • See you Saturday at 7 PM at Hall of Fame Lanes for BOWLING!

9/14 Summary

Our second meeting went really well! Mason came up with our new name, which is the Young Christians. It's simple, it doesn't exclude any other denominations for when we reach out to other churches to join forces, and it gets the point across. Thanks, Mason!

We picked our first two books (good job, Erin!) so that everyone can just buy both at the same time and cut down on Amazon shipping charges or whatever. No homework yet, but make sure you have at least the first book by Sunday, September 28th:

1. "Just Courage" by Gary A. Haugen
2. "It's Not About Me" by Max Lucado

We also talked about doing some sort of service project/fundraiser involving pumpkin pies in October or November. We'll talk more about it next week.
